The classic, standout film in terms of tension and arguably horror I've took my time to get round to this but it was well worth the wait. Now available on Netflix the film still holds after roughly 28 years or so. A gripping tale of cat and mouse and back and forth between a killer and FBI agent is fantastically well executed and there's a constant overbearing tone of dread. With Foster & Hopkins, the 2 leafs there's amazing performances and quite frankly the frequent use of direct to camera address is enough to make the skin crawl, and is extremely unsetttling. Tense, creepy and a sound film all round, there's a lot on offer to a potential audience especially those interested in the likes of "Prisoners" which has a very similar structure/plot, I highly recommend.
I am writing down this review in 2019, many a years after the movie's release.
But this production with all its setup is one of the most engaging and poetic movies ever. Hopkins speaks with his face alone. He does not need the dialogues. And when he does deliver the dialogues, its scary and to an audience, enchanting.
You never know if the lambs have gone silent but the protagonist, our dear girl with the antagonist, a man bent on his wishes brings out scenes that are scarier than horror movies and yet you cannot close your eyes but watch in silent yet visible anticipation.
